Labor & Employment

The Labor & Employment Community is an active group within the Law Firm Alliance that provides a forum for attorneys who practice in this area to connect, ask questions, discuss cases and share best practices. The Community hosts conferences calls with a featured educational/discussion topic, as well as face-to-face meetings at Law Firm Alliance meetings and national labor & employment conferences. The Community also has a dedicated listserv that members use as an additional way to share news and stay connected.

Members of our community have experience in the following areas:
•    Defending employers in state and federal courts in all types of employment lawsuits, including wrongful termination, sexual harassment, employment discrimination and wage and hour violations
•    Representing employers before enforcement agencies, including the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, state agencies and OSHA, relating to a variety of matters including discrimination and harassment claims, Equal Pay Act violations, wage compliance and overtime issues
•    Counseling on wage and hour compliance
•    Counseling clients on how to effectively and efficiently resolve personnel problems, including assisting with preliminary investigations of harassment claims as well as incident-free terminations
•    Providing complete and thorough investigation services, including conducting internal investigations of discrimination and harassment and working in conjunction with human resources personnel to make ultimate determinations and recommendations
•    Assisting employers in complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and various states’ family and medical leave acts Drafting employee policy manuals and additional employment-related policies, including enforceable arbitration policies
•    Drafting various employment-related agreements, including employment, consulting and independent contractor agreements, separation and release agreements, non-compete and confidentiality agreements
•    Drafting agreements, policies and strategic plans for the protection of confidential information, intellectual property and trade secrets
•    Training management in employment-related obligations
