PORTLAND, Ore. (December 16, 2024) Tonkon Torp LLP has elected attorneys Timothy Costello, Sam DeBaltzo, and Sasha Petrova to its partnership, effective January 1, 2025.

“Tim, Sam, and Sasha are smart, hard-working young attorneys and a great fit at our firm,” commented Kurt Ruttum, Tonkon Torp Managing Partner. “It’s been gratifying watching them grow their practices and develop their expertise. We are lucky to have them join the Tonkon Torp partnership – they’ve been key assets in our work providing clients with top-notch, responsive service.”

Tim Costello joined Tonkon Torp in 2019 as a paralegal in our Estate Planning Group. He obtained his Oregon law license and joined us as an attorney in 2021. Costello advises clients on estate planning and business succession. He is also experienced with post death probate and trust administrations as well as in gift and estate tax return preparation. Prior to joining the firm, Costello spent five years as an attorney in Maryland, focusing on fiduciary litigation and estate planning. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law.

Sam DeBaltzo joined the firm’s Business Department in 2017 after a successful stint as a Tonkon Torp Summer Associate during law school. His practice is focused on real estate transactions, with a wide variety of experience representing clients on purchases and sales, leases, easements, and secured and unsecured financing. DeBaltzo also negotiates construction and architect agreements, and frequently advises on real estate aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. DeBaltzo is licensed to practice law in Washington State in addition to Oregon.

Appellate attorney Sasha Petrova joined Tonkon Torp’s Litigation Department as Of Counsel in 2022. She handles a wide range of appeals at the state and federal levels and, in her litigation practice, helps clients with a variety of business disputes including breach of contract and tort litigation. Before joining Tonkon Torp, Petrova was a litigator at a national law firm where she focused on complex civil litigation and appeals. Petrova graduated summa cum laude from Willamette University College of Law. She is recognized as “One to Watch” by Best Lawyers in America and as an Oregon Rising Star (by Super Lawyers) for her appellate work.
